Understanding the Panopto Website (0.49 mins)
Let’s start with how to access Panopto through your web browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, or Edge). The Panopto Website is where your recorded videos will be uploaded, where you can access the video editor, search for videos and create sub-folders so you can organise your own videos in a logical way.
Using the Search Function
You can use the Panopto Website to search for individual videos, using the name of the video, words spoken out loud or words on the screen. You can search all UniSA Panopto content you have access to, or in a particular folder.
T the Browse tab on the left-hand menu of the Panopto Website can be used to find specific folders. If a folder is greyed out, this means you do not have permission to access. You can contact the Course Coordinator, or request access from Emily Wall. In your email, please include the Course Code, and the name(s) of staff who need access to the folder. Remember to cc the owner of the folder.

Every staff member has a personal ‘My Folder’ on the Panopto Website. This is where recorded videos will be stored, and the privacy settings are automatically set to be private to you. For any course-related videos that will be re-used, please move the video to the relevant course folder.Panopto Folders
You can create subfolders in the Panopto Website, to organise your folders into groups or topics that make sense for you. You can then set specific permissions for your subfolder if you would like to share multiple videos with others. You can also create subfolders in other folders that you have access to. The below video explains what situations creating subfolders would be appropriate for.

Share Settings
Videos stored in ‘My Folder’ cannot be viewed by others, so it is a good place to store videos that have not yet been edited. Panopto Share Settings are important to understand as if they aren’t correct, students may be unable to view your videos.
Giving other UniSA staff and students access to your video or subfolder is easy on the Panopto Website. You can also remove access to a video or subfolder if access is no longer needed. This short video shows you how to share access to your video content using the Panopto Website.

Moving and Renaming Videos
The Panopto Website allows you to move and copy videos to other folders, with just a few clicks. When you move a video, the embed code stays the same so you do not have to re-embed videos in your course site. If you copy a video, a new link and embed code will be generated. You can then edit a copy of new video without affecting the original video, if you unlink the videos before editing. You will be prompted to do this when you choose to edit a copied video.
Videos and subfolders can be edited in just a few simple steps. You can only rename videos and subfolders that you have access to.

Embedding Panopto Videos
Videos can be shared with a link, or with an embed code that can be added to your learnonline site using the HTML editor. A much simpler way is to use the Panopto button in the learnonline editor, as outlined in this video. The below videos take you through each method.

Closed Captions
Finally, let's take a look at captioning your video using the Panopto Website. Closed captions make your videos more accessible to students with a disability. The first video shows you the different ways you can add automatic closed captions to your video. Please note automatic captioning is not used for UniSA Online videos.
Automatic captioning isn’t perfect. Fortunately, editing the automatic closed captioning is easy to do in the Panopto Website. The second video shows you how.
Closed captions can also be downloaded. You could then add this text as a downloadable file to your course site. This is useful for students who are reading/writing learners. It is also useful for students with a disability for whom videos are not suitable for their learning.
