This section will show you how to use Panopto’s recording and editing features for your videos.
Introduction (0.38 mins)
This first video goes over some things you can do to improve your audio and video quality when recording or livestreaming via Panopto or alternate software. If you haven’t already, please complete the short Setting up Your Recording Space module (containing video 2.1 - Setting up Your Recording Space) to look at how best to set up your audio, video, and physical space for recording videos on your device.
Downloading and Setting Up the Panopto Recorder
Let’s start by having a look at the Panopto Recorder, which is available on your UniSA blue-plate device, or can be downloaded onto your own device. The second video talks you through the sections of the Panopto Recorder you need to pay attention to, each time you open the program.
Downloading and Installing the Panopto Recorder (1.16 mins)
Setting Up the Panopto Recorder (0.41 mins)
We touched on this topic briefly in the Panopto module, but let’s take a look at where you should store your course-related videos that will be re-used, and naming conventions. You have many different options for the location you store your videos, but depending on the situation, some are better than others.Where Should I Store My Videos in Panopto? (1.23 mins)
Setting Up the Panopto Recorder
This series of videos will show you how to best set up for your recording using Panopto’s options and features. You should follow these steps each time you prepare to record a new video. Once you have recorded lots of videos, these settings will become second nature to you.
Name and Location (1.12 mins)
The Panopto Recorder automatically uploads your video to the Panopto Website, ready for editing. This video explains how to set the video name and folder location before you start recording.
Audio (2.16)
We briefly looked at audio in Setting Up Your Recording Space, but now let’s have a look at how to get the most of the Panopto audio settings to ensure high-quality audio for your video. Clear audio is very important for educational video content.
Screen Recording (1.30 mins)
Panopto allows for a few different types of video to be created. This video explains what a Screen Recording is and how to set up the Panopto Recorder to create one.
Slide Recording (1.54 mins)
A Slide Recording is different from a Screen Recording. A Slide Recording allows students to click through the slides on Panopto, and allows you to easily replace slides in the recording if you need to. It is not suitable, however, if you plan to access other mediums during your recording, such as a video or webpage.
Webcam or USB Camera (1.12 mins)
This video explains how to set up the Panopto Recorder to create a video that uses a webcam or USB camera as its only source, such as a ‘talking head’ video.
Multi-stream Recording (1.24 mins)
Multiple video streams can be recorded at once in Panopto, allowing you to cut to different streams at different times, or allow the students to do this themselves whilst watching. This is one of the more complex types of video, and we recommend doing a few test recordings so you are comfortable with this option.
This video explains how to set up a Multi-stream Recording as well as explaining some specific techniques and limitations.
Recording a Video with the Panopto Recorder (1.51 mins)
Once your recording space and your Panopto Recorder are set up, you are ready to start! This video demonstrates the recording process, and includes some tips you might find useful to make the editing process easier.
Webcasting (Livestreaming) a Video with the Panopto Recorder (1.54 mins)
Panopto allows you to livestream your video while it’s being recorded. Webcasting creates a link that can be shared with others to watch your live video. Once the livestream is over, the video will have uploaded to your specified folder in the Panopto Website like normal. This video demonstrates the livestreaming process.
