Now that you have recorded your video, and it has automatically been uploaded, let’s return to the Panopto Website to edit your video. This module covers cutting and retiming videos, and inserting additional content to your video to make it more dynamic and engaging.
Introduction (1.26 mins)
Let’s have a look at the sections and functions of the Panopto Editor.
Basic Editing
Let's have a look at the features you are likely to use the most when editing your video or audio recordings.
Cutting (1.24 mins)
The tool you are most likely to use the most is cutting, or trimming, your video. This allows you to remove unwanted sections at any point in your recording. This video demonstrates the use of this simple click-and-drag tool. Please note if you are editing a Slide Recording, you should refer to the information in the next video.
Slide Recordings: Cutting and Retiming (1.43 mins)
Panopto Slide Recordings work differently to Screen Recordings and other video content. This video covers cutting, how slide timings work, and how to retime or delete slides. Remember to click ‘Apply’ when you have finished editing so as not to lose the changes you have made!
Slide Recordings: Adding/Replacing a Slide (1.52 mins)
Following on from the last video, let’s take a look at how to upload new slides into your slide recording which can be used to add new slides or replace existing slides. This can be useful if you have noticed an error on a slide after you have finished recording, or if you would like to update the information on a slide.
Advanced Editing
Now that you understand the basics, let's look at some of the more advanced editing features available in the Panopto Website.
Adding Clips (2.46 mins)
This refers to the process of adding one Panopto video into another. This is generally an easy process, but you may encounter some issues if you are combing videos with different settings. This video explains this process, and describes some of its limitations.
Multiple Streams (3.42 mins)
In the ‘Using the Panopto Recorder’ module, we looked at how to record videos with multiple video streams. When a video is recorded with multiple video streams in Panopto, the process of cutting the video is different. This video explains this difference and demonstrates your different options and outcomes.
Additional Content
The Panopto Website allows for additional content to be added to your recording; Quiz, YouTube video, and Webpage.
Adding a Quiz (4.40 mins)
Including a Quiz in your video is a good way to engage your audience and provide them with an opportunity to test their learning of the content without having to exit the video. You can add a quiz at any point in your video, and you can add multiple quizzes in the one video. These quizzes can make use of 4 different question types (True/False, Multiple Choice, Multiple Select, and Fill in the Blank), and a variety of different settings. This video explains these different options and demonstrates the process of creating a quiz in the Panopto Editor.
You can look at the analytics of the quiz(zes) to see how many students have completed the quizzes, and which questions they struggled with. You could use these analytics to start a dialogue with students in synchronous or asynchronous activities in your course.
Adding a YouTube Video (1.48 mins)
Similarly to how you can insert a separate Panopto video as a ‘clip’ in the Panopto Editor, you can also insert a separate YouTube video. This video demonstrates the process.
Adding a Webpage (1.37 mins)
Panopto offers the option to add a webpage into a Panopto video. This works by automatically pausing the video and having the webpage display inside the frame of the video. The viewer can then interact with the page without needing to navigate away from the video. This video explains this feature and demonstrates how to make use of it.
