Welcome to the David Unaipon College of Education and Research: Indigenous Tutor Induction Program.
This Online Induction Program is designed to provide prospective tutors with clear and concise expectations and support processes for tutor working with Indigenous students at the University of South Australia.
Please work your way through the different modules, once you have completed each module you will be placed on our tutor database. Once on the tutor database, you will be contacted when a student requires your services.

What is the Indigenous Student Tutor Program
The program offers students access to qualified tutors located in metropolitan and rural locations with skills and experience in a wide range of study areas. Tuition includes all areas of study such as program content, time management, academic writing skills, essay planning and referencing skills.
Tutors are available to help with study and workload demands and to provide support and encouragement to assist with succeeding at University.

Do you meet the requirements for become a tutor?
A tutor must fulfil the following criteria in order to be eligible to be an ITAS tutor:
- be qualified, either through formal education or relevant experience, to be eligible to deliver the required tuition; and
- a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 5.5; and
- must be at least two academic years ahead of the student (first and second year university students are not eligible to be ITAS tutors); and
- must comply with South Australian legislation relating to working with minors and child protection (all tutors must have a card for working with children); and
- have an understanding of, and sensitivity to, the educational needs of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.

Application Process
Step One.
Complete the form, 'ITAS Tutor Application', available on request from the Academic Advisor on the campus at which you wish to tutor. Submit the completed form to the Academic Advisor or email it to ducier@unisa.edu.au

Step Two
Complete each section of this online induction. Once you have completed this online induction proceed to step 3.
Step Three.
Attend an interview with an Academic Adviser who will assess your eligibility for tutoring and verify your qualifications and other documents. Please ensure that you take with you all original or certified copies of the documents requested on the form. Please note that from 31st August, 2012, a cleared National Criminal History Check (NCHRC) undertaken by the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) is required.
Step Four.
Subject to approval, your details will be forwarded to the University Human Resources area where a contract will be generated for you. Your ongoing contract of employment will be conditional on confirmation of a cleared NCHRC. Please note that a cleared NCHRC is required every three years and must be valid for the entire period of employment as an ITAS Tutor.
