  • About the site

This site is designed to provide practical tools to assist Academic Units (AUs) and supervisors of Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates (both PhD and Masters) in their work supporting candidate research writing. The resources are designed to be used to support the development of HDR writing activities either within or across AUs or as part of individual or small group supervision. This is a staff-only site.

The site pertains to two aspects of working with student writing, though writers are likely to learn about both within a single writing activity or event:

    1. facilitating the writing process through writing retreats, writing groups, and feedback activities,

    2. 'teaching' research writing as a genre in your discipline.

This site is under development. Thankyou for your understanding! The topics that have been developed on this site so far focus on the first point above: the writing, feedback and planning process. Resources for teaching writing as genre are in development.

Commentary on pedagogic rationale for working with research writers in relation to both writing process and genre is provided in documents linked from the 'How to use these resources' tab which you may want to browse first.

Topics are inclusive of background commentary and a 'suggestions for use' series of dot points which aim to facilitate and support your thinking about how you will design your own writing activities.

If you have useful resources you'd like to share, you can contact Dr Wendy Bastalich, the chief author of content on the site and the site developer, with any feedback and requests to contribute.
