Welcome to the International Business course

    Hussain Rammal

    Hi everyone.

My name is Dr Ian Cook and I’m your facilitator for the course.

If you want to ask a question about the course and the question is not of a private nature, just post it in the Staff Office and I’ll respond there. This way, other class members can benefit from your question and the answer I give.

    Virtual classroom

A required part of this course is attendance at the 1-hour virtual classroom held each week. Minimum attendance requirements in order to pass this course are set out in the Course Outline.

Details of the time(s) at which the virtual classroom(s) will be held, how you access the classroom, and the format of the sessions, will be posted in the Staff Office.

    As a starting point…

      Your profile:

Could you please go to the “participants” area (the link is on the “Course Menu” block on the left of your screen) and update your personal information, including adding a picture of yourself, if possible.

It would be helpful for you to give, at least: your current job/responsibilities/ title; how long you have been in the position; the organisation you currently work for; what it does, if this is not obvious; what previous significant position/roles you have fulfilled; your professional background ( e.g. engineer, accountant) and previous qualifications; where else you have worked if not always in SA.

This will help us all to better interact with each other and it will help me to use the experience and backgrounds of course members so we can share and contribute to each others’ learning.

      Class participation:

A key feature of this (and other) courses offered as part of your program is the learning experience that comes from attending seminars and engaging with your fellow students.

The Course Outline specifies that “Students are normally expected to attend a minimum of 80% of the seminars scheduled for the course.”

Please keep this in mind as if this minimum level of participation is not achieved, then a pass grade for the course cannot normally be awarded regardless of what other assignment work is done.

      Course outline:

The Course Outline (the link is on the “Course Essentials” block on the right of your screen) is an important document so please make sure you read though it.

In particular, note the assessment requirements and due dates, and also note the minimum participation requirements needed to pass the course.

      Staff office:

The Staff Office (the link is in the top central panel of your screen) is the key online communication point for the class.

Please check it for any initial course postings, plus go here regularly and check for updates.

       Site content and course introduction:

Please browse through all of the content in the central panels of the site to familiarise yourself with the resources provided.

      Academic Integrity

Can you please ensure you understand the requirements for meeting Academic Integrity in material you submit for assessment (see the Academic Integrity link in the "Useful Links" menu bar).

Also note that UniSA regulations state that copying your own previous work (say, from an assignment submitted for another course) amounts to Academic Misconduct in the same way as copying someone else's work, or copying material from a journal paper without proper acknowledgement, would be.

Academic Misconduct, in particular issues of plagiarism, are taken very seriously and engaging in Academic Misconduct carries significant implications. These penalties can include being awarded a zero mark for an assignment or, in some instances, expulsion from the program of study, where Academic Misconduct is evident.
