Overview

The myUniSA Teaching Dashboard provides a collection of useful management tools, widgets and learning analytics reports with data on how students interact with their learnonline course site, resources and activities.  The front page of the dashboard displays a task check-list that will help Course Coordinators prepare their learnonline environment and manage tasks during the study period. In addition, widgets can be added to provide a visual representation of student interaction with learnonline and an access point to detailed learnonline course site reports with the capacity to drill down to individual student engagement data. Course Coordinators and instructors are encouraged to use the learning anaytics data to inform their actions when assisting students with their academic progress.

Teaching Dashboard

Access Dashboard

Complete the following steps to access the teaching and analytics dashboards.

Select Teaching

  • Click Teaching in the banner at the top of the screen.

Select Course

  1. Select the required course.
    Course Coordinators will be presented with the list of courses they are responsible for.
  2. If the required course isn't displayed, enter the course code and click Search.

Select Analytics

The Teaching Dashboard will display with a selection of widgets displaying various aspects of student engagement.

  1. Click View Report to access a detailed report of the widget data.
  2. Select Analytics to view the full range of reports available on the Analytics Dashboard.

Analytics Dashboard

A range of learning analytics reports arranged in the following four categories are available.

  • Popular Reports
  • learnonline Course Site Reports
  • learnonline Assessment Reports
  • Lecture Recording Reports

Click the drop-down arrow in each category to select the required report.

Search options

  • Select Advanced search

Select the search criteria desired.

B. Catalog number

C. Year

D. Study period

E. Location

F. Mode

Results will be displayed.

Dashboard Customisation

Staff are able to customise the dashboard to their own requirements by adding or removing widgets, and moving widgets to different locations within the Dashboard grid. Changes to the Dashboard layout are saved automatically.

Add new widget

Add Widget - Step 1

  • Select Select an item to add.

Add Widget - Step 2

  • Select the name of the widget to add to the dashboard.

Add Widget - Step 3

  • The selected widget will be added to the dashboard layout and displayed on screen.

Remove widget

Remove Widget - Step 1

  • Select the Close button for the widget to be removed from the dashboard.

Remove Widget - Step 2

  • The selected widget will be removed from the dashboard layout.

Move widget

Move Widget - Step 1

  • Select and hold the name of the widget to be moved, and drag the widget to it a new location within the dashboard grid.

Course Site Visits (Study Period)

Report Function

The report illustrates the learnonline course site visits for the course offering over the selected study period.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to establish patterns of student online engagement.

Course Site Visits (Study Period)

Report Features

A. Select the help icon to display a description of the report.

B. The number of visits by students to the learnonline course site for the selected offering, within the specified week.

C. Weeks that make up the study period, displayed as the first Monday of each week.

D. Select Download to obtain a copy of the raw data used in the report as an Excel spreadsheet.

Filtering the report

E. Select Month to view a report showing learnonline course site visits per month.

Comparing the report to different data

F. Select the Offering drop-down to choose a different offering of the same course to add as a comparison data set to the report. A legend will be shown to indicate the offering for each data set.

G. Select the Study Period drop-down to choose a different study period of the same course offering to add as a comparison data set to the report. A legend will be shown to indicate the study period for each data set.

How data is calculated

The system will count any visits by a student within a one hour time period as 1 course site visit. The maximum number of course site visits that can be recorded for a student per day is 24.

Course Site Visits (Month)

Report Function

The report illustrates the learnonline course site visits for the course offering over the selected month.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to establish patterns of student online engagement.

Forum Engagement

Report Function

The report illustrates the engagement across all forums within the learnonline site for the course offering.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to determine the overall participation rate of each forum..

C. The proportion of students that have engaged and not engaged in the specified forum.

D. Select Download to obtain a copy of the raw data used in the report as an Excel spreadsheet.

Filtering the report

E. Select an assessment method from the drop-down to filter the report to forums of the specified assessment method.

Select a bar to view the Student Forum Engagement report for the selected forum.

Student Forum Engagement

Report Function

The report illustrates the individual student engagement for a selected forum in the course offering.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to determine the level of engagement within a specific learnonline forum.

A. Select the help icon to display a description of the report.

B. Select Return to Home Chart to return to the Forum Engagement report.

C. Enrolled students in the course offering. Select a student name to view their student details.

D. The total forum engagement for the specified student.

E. Select Download to obtain a copy of the raw data used in the report as an Excel spreadsheet.

Filtering the report

F. Select the Forum drop-down to select a different forum to display in the report.

G. Select a value from the drop-down to filter the report based on View and/or Contribute engagement types.

Sorting the report

H. Select a value from the drop-down to change the number of students displayed in the report.

I. Select a value from the Sort drop-down to sort the report by highest or lowest engagement.

Forum Engagement (Tabular)

Report Function

The report illustrates the overall engagement across all forums within the learnonline site for the course offering.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to determine the overall participation rate of each forum.

How data is calculated

Participation Level is calculated as the Number of Students that Viewed divided by the Total Number of Students.

Report Function

The report illustrates the individual student engagement for a selected forum in the course offering.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to determine the level of engagement within a specific learnonline forum.

learnonline Activity and Resource Implementation

Report Function

The report illustrates the number of activities and resources implemented within the course offering.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to use as a quick reference to summarise their learnonline activities and resources.

A. Select the help icon to display a description of the report.

B. The number of times that an activity or resource type was used within the learnonline course site for the selected offering.

C. Activity and resource types that can potentially be used within a learnonline course site.

D. Select Download to obtain a copy of the raw data used in the report as an Excel spreadsheet.

Filtering the report

E. Select a check box(s) to hide or show activities or resources from the report.

Comparing the report to different data

F. Select the Offering drop-down to choose a different offering of the same course to add as a comparison data set to the report. A legend will be shown to indicate the offering for each data set.

Student Course Site Visits

Report Function

The report illustrates the number of course site visits per student and the average within the course offering.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to identify students that have not yet logged in to their learnonline course offering site.

Student Course Site Visits

Report Features

A. Select the help icon to display a description of the report.

B. The number of visits to the learnonline course site per student for the selected study period.

C. Select Download to obtain a copy of the raw data used in the report as an Excel spreadsheet.

Sorting the report

D. Select a value from the Sort drop-down to sort the report by most or least number of learnonline course site visits.

E. Select a value from the drop-down to change the number of students displayed in the report.

Filtering the report

F. Select the From date and/or the To date calendar icons to specify a date range to filter the report by.

G. Select Set Date Range to refresh the report based on the date range specified. Select Clear Date Range to clear the From date and To date fields.

How data is calculated

The system will count any visits by a student within a one hour time period as 1 course site visit. The maximum number of course site visits that can be recorded for a student per day is 24.

Student Course Site Visits (First Time Login & Weekly/Daily Visits)

Report Function

The report illustrates the first time a student logs into learnonline and their subsequent visits for the course offering.
This can help Course Coordinators in establishing patterns of student learnonline engagement.

Student Course Site Visits (First Time Login & Weekly/Daily Visits)

Report Features

A. Select the help icon to display a description of the report.

B. Study Period View - Weeks that make up the study period, displayed as the first Monday of each week.
Month View - Days of the selected month.
Select any week/day column to sort the chart by course visits within the selected week/day.

C. The course visit activity for students. (Refer to the legend for colour values.)

D. Enrolled students in the course offering. Students that have not logged into the course site are highlighted in red. Select a student name to view their student details.

E. Select Download to obtain a copy of the raw data used in the report as an Excel spreadsheet.

Filtering the report

F. Select any arrow to move between pages of results.

G. Select the Page size drop-down to change how many students are displayed per report page.

H. Select Study Period or Month to view the report per study period week or per day within each month.
While viewing by month, select the calendar icon to select a different month to view.

Sorting the report

I. Select a value from the drop-down to sort the report by earliest or latest date of first login.

J. Select Sort to apply the sort order to the report.

How data is calculated

The system will count any visits by a student within a one hour time period as 1 course site visit. The maximum number of course site visits that can be recorded for a student per day is 24.

Student Course Site Visits (Tabular)

Report Function

The report illustrates the total number of times individual students have visited learnonline for this course offering.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to determine the level of student engagement.

Report Features

A. Select the help icon to display a description of the report.

B. The total number of course site visits for each student.

C. Select any arrow to move between pages of results.

D. Select the Page size drop-down to change how many students are displayed per report page.

E. Select Download to obtain a copy of the raw data used in the report as an Excel spreadsheet.

How data is calculated

The system will count any visits by a student within a one hour time period as 1 course site visit. The maximum number of course site visits that can be recorded for a student per day is 24.

Student Enrolments / Withdrawals

Report Function

The report displays the student enrolments and withdrawals for the course offering.

Note: data is only available for course offerings held in Study Period 4 2015 and later.

Report Features

A. Select the help icon to display a description of the report.

B. Select Download to obtain a copy of the raw data used in the report as an Excel spreadsheet.

Filtering the Report

C. Enter a date range and select Set Date Range to view enrolment activity during the entered period.
Select Clear Date Range to remove the date range filtering and return back to viewing all enrolment activity.

Student learnonline Engagement

Report Function

The report illustrates the average student activity engagement per student within the course offering.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to identify students that are not engaged in the learnonline course site.

Student learnonline Engagement (Individuals)

Report Features

A. Select the help icon to display a description of the report.

B. The total learnonline course site engagement for the specified student, as a percentage in relation to the student with the most engagement.

C. Select Download to obtain a copy of the raw data used in the report as an Excel spreadsheet.

Filtering the report

D. Select an activity or resource type to hide or show that type from the report. Select the expand icon to allow selection of individual activities or resource of a specified type.

E. Select Update to refresh the report based on filter selections.

F. Select a value from the drop-down to filter the report based on View and/or Contribute engagement types.

Sorting the report

G. Select a value from the drop-down to change the number of students displayed in the report.

H. Select a value from the Sort drop-down to sort the report by highest or lowest engagement.

Drill through

Select a bar to view a report showing Individual Student learnonline Engagement for the selected student. Any selected filtering will also be applied to the individual student report.

How data is calculated

The student with the most total learnonline course site engagement is displayed with a value of 100%.
Every other student percentage is calculated in relation to the student with the most engagement.
For example, Student A engaged a total number of 50 times. Student B engaged a total of 25 times. Student B will display in the report with a value of 50%.

Report Function

The report illustrates the activity and resource engagement for an individual student within the course offering.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to clearly identify the specific activities and resources that the student has viewed and/or contributed to.

Report Function

The report illustrates the proportion of students who have or have not engaged in individual activities and resources for the course offering.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to clearly identify activities and resources that students have viewed and/or contributed to.

Report Function

The report illustrates the students that have or have not engaged within the specified learnonline activity or resource for the course offering.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator in determining the students that have been actively engaging in activities/resources.

Report Features

A. Select the help icon to display a description of the report.

B. Select Return to Home Chart to return to the Student learnonline Engagement (Ratio) report.

C. The activity or resource selected, and whether the report shows students that have engaged, or have not engaged.

D. The number of times a student has viewed the specified activity or resource.

E. The number of times a student has contributed to the specified activity or resource.

F. Select Download to obtain a copy of the raw data used in the report as an Excel spreadsheet.

Note: Some columns may not be shown depending on the activity or resource type selected, and the engagement type selected.

Student Summary

Report Function

The Student Summary Report provides an overview of student interaction with a learnonline course site including current overall grades for the course.

Report Features

A. Select the help icon to display a description of the report.

B. Select the student's name to access more information.

C. The number of visits a student has made to the course site in relation to the student in the course who has made the most visits. Hover over the bar to view the exact number.

D. The amount of student engagement with activities and resources in relation to the student in the course with the most engagement.

E. The date and time of the student's last login to the course site.

F. The student's current grade average across all assessment activities in the course.

G. The official Result Entry grade.

Report Function

The report illustrates the learnonline grade distribution for a single assessment activity..
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to monitor student performance.

Report Function

The report illustrates the progressive grade distribution of the course offering.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to monitor student performance.

B. The number/percentage of students that have received the specified grade (based on the current graded assessments).

C. Select Download to obtain a copy of the raw data used in the report as an Excel spreadsheet.

D. Select the Offering drop-down to choose a different offering of the same course to add as a comparison data set to the report. A legend will be shown to indicate the offering for each data set (G).

E. Select the Study period drop-down to choose a different study period of the same offering to add as a comparison data set to the report. A legend will be shown to indicate the offering for each data set (G).

Changing the data format

F. Select the data format drop-down to choose between showing number or percentage values.

Drill through

Select a bar to view the Course Grade Distribution (Detail) report for the selected grades (not available for the comparison course offering).

How data is calculated

The student grades shown are calculated within the learnonline environment from assessment grades.
Note: This report does not reflect the final student grades entered in Result Entry.

The report illustrates student progressive course grades based on learnonline assessments.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to monitor student performance.

F. Select the Data Format drop down to choose between showing the number or the percentage of students within the course offering who obtained the grade.

Select a bar to view the Final Grade Distribution (Detail) report for the selected grades (not available for the comparison course offering).

The report illustrates the final grade distribution from Result Entry for the course offering.

Report Function

The report highlights students who submitted to the specified assessment after the due date.
This may assist with identifying students at risk.

C. Select Download to obtain a copy of the raw data used in the report as an Excel spreadsheet.

D. Select an assessment to show the late submissions for that assessment.

Sorting the report

E. Select a value from the drop-down to sort by students based on the most or least days overdue.

F. Select a value from the drop-down to change the number of students displayed in the report.

G. Legend showing how chart bars are categorised based ontwhether the submission was within an extension period or is deemed to be late.

Select a student name to view the student's details.

Submission Date Distribution

Report Function

The report illustrates the proportion of students that have submitted their assessments late.
This may assist Course Coordinators in tracking students at risk.

B. The proportion of students according to their submission date and whether an extension was granted (refer to the Legend).

Report Function

The report shows the students who submitted within the specified submission date status.

Report Function

The report illustrates the relationship between submission dates and grades.
This can be useful for a Course Coordinator to identify groups of students at risk.

A. Select the help icon to display a description of the report.

B. Legend showing the density of student groups according to the number of student submissions.

C. Each circle represents a group of students based on the date of their assessment submission and the grade they received.

D. The total number of students that have submitted to the assessment. Select view details to view a student list.

E. The total number of students that have not submitted to the assessment. Select view details to view a student list.

F. The number of days prior to (as a negative value) or after (positive value) the due date that students submitted their assessment.

G. Select Download to obtain a copy of the raw data used in the report as an Excel spreadsheet.

Filtering the report

H. Select an assessment from the View Summative Assessment drop-down to view submissions for the selected assessment.

Select a circle to view a report showing the list of students that comprise that group.

Submission Date vs Grades List

The report shows the students that submitted to the specified assessment with their submission date and the grade they received..

C. The summative assessment for which students are being viewed.

D. Select View assessment in learnonline to view the activity for the assessment.

Turnitin Similarity

Report Function

The report displays the Turnitin similarity score for each file per assessment per student.

D. Select Download to obtain a copy of the raw data used in the report as an Excel spreadsheet.

Filtering the report

E. Drag the sliders to specify a score range to filter the table to scores that fall within the defined range.

Select a similarity score to view the Turnitin report for the selected file.

Overview

The Task List is designed to help Course Coordinators and teaching staff prepare their learnonline environment and manage tasks during the study period. The listed tasks are relevant to the course offering that is currently being viewed with the Teaching Dashboard.

  • A task that displays with a red exclamation point icon indicates that the item is incomplete and requires attention.
  • A task that displays with a green tick icon indicates that the item is complete.

The Task List will check for the completion of the following items:

  • That the Course Outline is created and published for students - refer to Course Outline Tasks
  • That a learnonline website is created and open for students - refer to learnonline Tasks
  • That final grades have been entered and released to students via Result Entry (including any secondary assessment results if applicable) - refer to Result Entry Tasks
  • That the course and teacher evaluations have been configured and run for students - refer to myCourseExperience Tasks

Task List Refresh

The Task List will be updated every 24 hours. A live update can be triggered at any time by selecting the Refresh button.

Course Outline not created

  • If the Course Outline for the listed course offering has not been created, the following task will be displayed.
  • Select Create Course Outline to commence the Course Outline creation wizard.

Course Outline not published

  • Once the Course Outline has been created, but not published, the following tasks will be displayed.
  • status
    Course Outline created

  • Select Edit Course Outline to open the Course Outline for editing.

Course Outline published

  • Once the Course Outline has been published, the following task will be displayed.
  • Select View Course Outline to view the published Course Outline.
  • Select Edit Course Outline to open the Course Outline for editing.

learnonline Tasks

learnonline site not created

  • If the learnonline course site for the listed course offering has not been created, the following task will be displayed.
  • Select View learnonline course site to view the learnonline course site.
  • Select Copy a learnonline website or Create a learnonline website to commence the learnonline site creation wizard.

learnonline site not available to students

  • Once the learnonline course site has been created, but is not open to students, the following tasks will be displayed.
  • Select Edit learnonline course settings to open the course settings page of the learnonline course site.

learnonline site open

  • Once the learnonline course site has been opened to students, the following task will be displayed.
  • Select View learnonline course site to view the learnonline course site.

Result Entry Tasks

Results not entered

  • When all final grades for students have not been entered into Result Entry, the following task will be displayed.
  • Select View Result Entry to view the list of Result Entry classes.

Results not approved

Student Engagement Report

The student engagement report provides an overview of a student's engagement in all courses within their program. Information is available for the current and past study periods.

Login to the Staff Portal to access the Student Engagement Report.

Select Teaching

  • Select Teaching in the banner at the top of the screen.

Select Course

  • Select the required course in which the student is enrolled.

Select Student

  • Select Students.

Select Individual Student

  • Select the individual student by clicking their Student Id link.

Click Student Engagement

  • Select Student Engagement in the banner at the top of the screen.

Assessment Detail

Assessment details for the student's current courses will display at the top of the screen including:

A. Course details

B. Assessment names

C. Assessment type

D. Assessment due date

E. Grade and submission time

F. An expand function that will display assessments from previous courses

Course Engagement

Engagement detail for all courses in the student's program will display in the lower section of the screen including:

A. Course name and study period

B. Current grade average across all assessments in the course

C. Days since last login to course site

D. Number of times the student has logged into the site

E. Number of discussion forum contributions

F. Number of times the student has viewed lecture recordings

G. Number of assessments submitted late

H. Number of assessments that have not been submitted electronically or recorded in learnonline.
