Ethics, Governance and Sustainability - Worksheet development activities

Additional guidance: Worksheet Development Activities

Introduction

The Worksheet development activity is designed to help you undertake the analysis work that will be needed to complete your final assignment.

It covers 5 of the key worksheets that you will need to do in order to have a meaningful analysis conducted for the target organisation to be used in your final assignment, and from which you can then develop your report.

This is not to say that these 5 worksheets are the only ones you should use for this final report - but they are ones that should be used as a minimum.

Brief

For each of the 5 worksheets addressed in this activity, you need to analyse your organisation (the one you will be using for your final assignment) and complete the sections on the worksheet as are relevant.

Try and be brief - don't submit a document with large volumes of text added - go straight to the point.

If you prepare a version of a worksheet that has a large amount of 'discussion text' added (eg, you using the worksheet to chat through the issues to help you better work them through) then please strip this out of the document you submit - keep to the key points and the facts.

When gathering data for these worksheets, search for facts and evidence. Don't just fill them in based on a 'personal knowledge' basis. You should be able to back up your worksheet content with evidence.

Referencing your sources of data should be used wherever possible.

Once you have prepared the worksheet, submit it together with a covering page answering the set questions for each of the activities.

You will be assessed on the extent to which you have answered the set questions, and the extent to which your worksheet presents a thorough and coherent document.

Topic 2 activity - Stakeholder worksheet

For the organisation you are covering in your final assignment, select 3 of the organisation’s stakeholders and complete the Stakeholder worksheet for each of these 3 (this worksheet is available under "Mapping worksheets" heading in the Materials tab).

Submit this worksheet together with a covering paper that answers this question:

What are key findings that have come from this exercise?

In particular, discuss:

(a) What you believe the stakeholder field should be for the organisation (refer to the Topic notes for Topic 1, in particular the section headed “Who/what are stakeholders?”). Justify your position.

(b) What your organisation’s current approach to stakeholders is.

(c) What you believe your organisation should do going forward in respect of how it attends to its stakeholders, and why it should do this.

Word count for your answer: 300 - 600 words (this word count does not include the worksheet content itself, just your supporting answer to the above question).

For guidelines on how to answer the Worksheet Development questions, see the link under the Assessment tab on the Learnonline site.

You will be assessed on the extent to which these guidelines are followed.

NOTE:

The worksheet contains a section dealing with justice issues.
Justice is covered in Topic 4, although it is also touched on in Topic 1 readings.
You will need to consider this part of the worksheet content when you come to prepare your final assignment, but it is not needed for this particular Topic 2 hand-up activity.

Topic 3 activity - Building and ethical organisation

For the organisation you are covering in your final assignment, Complete the Ethics – building an ethical organisation worksheet for the organisation you are covering in your final assignment for this course (refer to the Johnson reading for this topic: this article covers in detail the various points on the worksheet). (this worksheet is available under "Mapping worksheets" heading in the Materials tab).

Submit this worksheet together with a covering paper that answers this question:

What are key findings that have come from this exercise?

In particular, discuss:

(a) The ethical standards and values you believe the organisation should display (and justify your position).

(b) The key things that need to be done in the organisation to further the stance you are proposing.

(c) The common themes that are evident from this worksheet and any of the other worksheets you have completed so far.

Topic 7 activity - Phases model

For the organisation you are covering in your final assignment, Complete the Phases model worksheet for the organisation you are covering in your final assignment for this course (this worksheet is available under "Mapping worksheets" heading in the Materials tab).

Submit this worksheet together with a covering paper that answers this question:

What are key findings that have come from this exercise?

In particular, discuss:

(a) What ‘phase’ your organisation is currently dominant in and what evidence supports this.

(b) What you think the organisation should now do and why.

(c) The common themes that are evident from this worksheet and any of the other worksheets you have completed so far.

Submit this worksheet together with a covering paper that answers this question:

What are key findings that have come from this exercise?

In particular, discuss:

(a) What the strengths and weaknesses are in the organisation’s current governance structure.

(b) What you think the organisation should now do and why.

(c) The common themes that are evident from this worksheet and any of the other worksheets you have completed so far.

For the organisation you are covering in your final assignment, select complete the Levels of Strategy worksheet (this worksheet is available under "Mapping worksheets" heading in the Materials tab).

Submit this worksheet together with a covering paper that answers this question:

What are key findings that have come from this exercise?

In particular, discuss:

(a) What this exercise tells you about how the organisation embeds, or doesn’t embed, EGS issues throughout the different levels of strategy.

(b) What you think the organisation should now do and why.

(c) The common themes that are evident from this worksheet and the other worksheets you have completed.

Word count for your answer: 300 - 600 words (this word count does not include the worksheet content itself, just your supporting answer to the above question).

For guidelines on how to answer the Worksheet Development questions, see the link under the Assessment tab on the Learnonline site.
