Adding a Virtual Classroom

Turn editing on

  1. Select Turn editing on

The page will refresh.

Add an activity or resource

  1. Select Add an activity or resource 

Select Virtual Classroom

  1. Select Virtual classroom
  2. Select Add

Virtual Classroom Settings

  1. Enter a name for your virtual classroom in Meeting title.  Recommendations for the format of this is a meaningful title, course code, study period and year.
  2. Enter an introduction about the virtual classroom in Intro.
  3. Leave Meeting URL blank. This will be created for you.
  4. Select the Meeting type. The default Public is standard as only enrolled students can see the link on your Course site.
  5. Select the required Meeting Template if required.  The default is the standard template.
  6. Select the Start time.
  7. Select the End time. If the virtual classroom is to remain open for the entire study period, the End time should be set to the date of the last teaching week.
  8. Select if you wish to define common module settings
  9. Select if you wish to restrict access.
  10. Select if you wish to track activity completion of the Virtual Classroom.
  11. Select if you wish to add tags to the Virtual Classroom.
  12. Select Save and return to course.

Inviting guests

How to invite guests, who do not have a UniSA logon, to your virtual classroom.

Open Adobe Connect virtual classroom.

Select Meeting - Manage Access & Entry

  1. Select the Meeting menu.
  2. Select Manage Access & Entry.
  3. Select Invite Participants.

Select Compose email

  • Select Compose e-mail.

Compile email

  1. Enter recipient email address(s).
  2. Edit email content as required.
  3. Select Send.

Email invitation

  • Guests will select the link in the email invitation.

Lost access as a Host

This depends on where the VCR was made:

  1. Through the course site:
    • You need to ensure you click on the Join Meeting button - do not click on the URL.
      NOTE: if you are previously taken through as a participant, ensure you close all your browsers and VCR sessions down before start again and trying the above. If you continue to have issue please call the learnOnline Help Desk 83020900.

  2. Through the server - To restore your access to a virtual classroom in which you should be a Host, follow these steps before starting the virtual classroom.
    1. Go to the staff portal:
    2. Hover mouse over Online Tools menu in the top right hand corner
    3. Click on last option in the menu Assign Adobe Connect Access
    4. The system will ask you to log in if you haven’t already logged into the staff portal
    5. When you see the following green writing you are free to enter your VCR as a host:
      Your account has been successfully granted Host rights to Virtual Classroom.

Choose Audio setup Wizard

  • Enter the virtual classroom.
  • In the Meeting menu select Audio Setup Wizard.

  1. Install add-in if required.
  2. Select Next button.

  1. Select Play Sound button (you should hear music).
  2. Select Next button.

Select audion device

  1. Select a default device (your headset).
  2. Select Next button.

  1. Select Record button and record a short message.

2.  Select Stop button to stop recording message.

3.  Select Play Recording button to hear your recorded message.

If you can't hear your recording you can contact the IT Helpdesk on 25000 for assistance. For other Virtual Classroom related enquiries, contact the Learnonline Helpdesk on 20900.

4.  Select Stop Playing button to stop play.

5.  Select Next button.

Test silence

1.  Select Test Silence button.

3.  Select Next button.

The Audio Setup Successful message will appear displaying headset information.

  • Select Finish button.

  • Select Connect My Audio in the Microphone icon dropdown menu.

  • Your microphone will be now be connected and icon will be greeen.
  • You can change the microphone settings using the dropdown menu.

Start webcam

Select Start My Webcam from the Video icon dropdown menu.

Your webcam will now be connected.

Enabling Participants microphones and video

  • Hold mouse over Participants name in the Attendees pod.
  • From the menu choose Enable Audio. Participants can then connect their microphone.


  • Approving a participants Raised Hand will also enable their microphone.

  • Hold mouse over Participants name in the Attendees pod.
  • From the menu choose Enable Video. Participants can then connect their webcam.

Using Virtual classroom with iPad, iPhone, or Android

The Adobe Connect virtual classroom can be accessed using an iPad, iPhone or Android by downloading the below app from Adobe Connect, or by searching the app through the app store.

Instructions for connecting using iPad:

  • Download the app
  • Open the app
  • Open a web browser to enter the virtual classroom through the learnonline course
  • Join the virtual classroom
  • The app opens the virtual classroom

Please note: you may have to enter the meeting url directly in the app if the above instructions do not work. Also the virtual classroom will open best using 3G network rather than the university wireless networks.

Managing Pods in a Virtual Classroom

  • To manage pods within a virtual classroom you must be a host.

Pods are the components that make up a virtual classroom, the documents window, chat window, and participants window, are all examples of pods.

Adding a new pod

Add Pod

  1. Select Pods.
  2. Select Chat.
  3. Select Add New Chat.

The chat pod will appear. See Moving Pods to decide its position

Tick Move and Resize Pods

  1. Select Pods.
  2. Select Move and Resize Pods. This will tick the option.


Select and hold title bar to move

  • Click and hold the title bar, then drag your mouse to move the pod.

  • Click a corner of the pod, then drag your mouse to resize it.


Creating a poll

Select Discussion

Access a Poll by either; selecting the Discussion layout, OR, following the steps in Adding a new pod.

Next, to create the Poll.

  1. Select the type of poll.
    For this example we will be using a multiple choice question.
  2. Enter the Question you wish to ask.
  3. Enter the Answers that are available to students. In a multiple choice type, each line with text on it is a different option for the students to choose from.
  4. Select Open to make the poll available to students.


Manage Poll

A. Select Prepare to return to the previous step. (This will close the poll to students)
B. Select View Votes to see the which student gave which answer.
C. Tick Broadcast Results to show the students the results of the poll.
D. Select Close to disallow voting. You can then select Reopen to allow voting again.

  1. Select the drop down Menu


A.   Select New Poll to start a new poll from the beginning.
B.   Select Select Poll to choose from polls you have previously created in this Virtual Classroom.

C. Select Share Whiteboard.

  1. Select a Screen sharing option:
  2. Tick the option that you wish to share
  3. Select Share.

Your virtual classroom will minimize and participants will be able to see your selection.

A. Select Browse My Computer... to select a file to upload from your computer


B. Select a file from the list.
C. Click OK.



Creating breakout rooms

  • Breakout Rooms split your class into groups, each with their own space to work in and communicate.

Enter Breakout Room Mode

  • First, select the breakout room icon to bring up the breakout room options.

Below are the main breakout room options.

A) Select this to Start Breakouts.
B) Select this to automatically split your students into breakout rooms. This process is randomized.
C) Select this to add a breakout room.
D) Select this to remove a breakout room.

  1. Hover over a participants name.
  2. Select the Breakout room you want to move them to that room.


Starting Breakout Rooms

  • Select Start Breakouts
  • You can then monitor different breakout rooms by hovering over your own name and selecting the breakout you wish to monitor.
  • Another way to move participants(and yourself) to breakout rooms, is simply to select their name and drag them to it.

Record a classroom

Virtual classrooms can be recorded, it will be recorded from a participants perspective. This can be useful for students who have missed the session. Or to review your own virtual classroom techniques.

Start Recording

  • To start the recording, just press on the Meeting menu, and select Record Meeting.

  1. Give the Meeting a Name
  2. Write a short summary of what the meeting will be about
  3. Select OK.

Recording notification

  • A recording icon will appear, to advise you that the meeting is now being recorded.

Stop Recording

  • It can be stopped at any time, by selecting the Meeting menu, and pressing Stop Recording.

Making a Virtual Classroom recording public

There may be occasions you need to share a Virtual Classroom recording from one course to another. To do this you will need to make the recording Public and share the link to the people you want to view.

  1. Go to your recording page and click on Join Meeting

  2. Once logged in go to Meeting > Manage Meeting Information

  3. Go to Recordings
  4. Select the recording you want to grant access to
  5. Click Access Type

  6. Select Public
  7. Click Save and return to your Virtual Classroom page

  8. Right click on the recording
  9. Select Copy Shortcut (may be Copy Link Location or Copy Link Address depending on your browser)

  10. Provide the link to the people that need it or place on the course page.

  1. Log into your Virtual Classroom using your regular UniSA login Edit VC Recording
  2. Click on Meeting
  3. Click on Manage Meeting Information

  4. From the Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Meetings page click on Recordings
    Click on Recordings
  5. Click on the Recording you wish to edit
    Select the recording
  6. Then click on Actions
  7. and click on Edit Information

  8. Rename the recording to what you want to call it
  9. Click Save
