Teacher Notes

Pre-course preparation

Website

Finish off website - set assessment submissions according to the study schedule. Check the course outline and assessments details.

Please update the information "Tutors and Tutorials page" and communication page.

Please check the teacher storage area (orphaned section) to access all learning material and support resources for this course. Click here to access.

Textbook

Ensure students and tutors have copies of textbook: You will need continual access to the following text(s) to complete this course. You are strongly recommended to purchase the book(s).

Practical Lab set up

Ensure materials and equipment for practicals has been purchased/ set up.

For practicals, specific equipment/hardware is required and need to be set up at the lab facility for the students to access. Please check the equipment list here.

Exam

Past exam papers, can be accessed from the Teacher storage area (orphaned section of the website). Please make them available to students for practice at the end of the study period.

The exam may assess any areas covered in the lecture, tutorial and practical components of the course. The exam will be a closed book exam for 2 hours.
A formula sheet is given in the exam.

Learning activities

Most of the learning activities in this course will be asynchronous - students can choose the time they would like and complete the activities up to the deadline (Weeks start on Mondays and the deadline is normally Friday at 11 pm). Please ensure to set/check the dates for all activities.

Tutorial

Starting from Week 1, each week there is tutorial on the lecture topic covered each week. Students can complete the tutorial in their own time, however, any questions/ problems need to be discussed during the class. Teaching staff will assist students in solving problems. Half an hour should be focused on discussing any questions/ problems from tutorials.  The face to face tutorials should be well planned and run effectively.

Note: Everyone must attempt to solve questions before coming to the tutorial session. Solutions will need to be supplied only at the end of the week via Learnonline. The tutorial solutions can be accessed from the study material section. The solutions will need to be made available to students (they are hidden).

Each week, the students will be given a series of tutorial questions (starting from Week 1, total 10 tutorials), which are based on the lecture materials for that week. The online tutorial questions are available for students to work.

The solutions to these tutorial questions will be discussed in the tutorial/practical Classroom session.

Practicals

There are 4 practicals (assessed).

For practicals, All of the practicals will require a lab set up.

The equipment which will be used for each experiment can be accessed form the equipment list.

Please make sure to let the students know about the safety measures and procedures in accordance with UniSA Rules for Using Laboratories.

Please ensure to organise the facility for running practicals in labs.

Dedicated class time should focus on completing practicals, solving problems, possibly, in group setting, and discussion on further clarifying underlying concepts.

Communications guidelines

How to communicate page needs to be updated with correct contact and support information.

Assessment

Students will be assessed on how well they can:

On completion of this course, students should be able to:
