Notes on the different learning styles
Characteristics of Learning Styles
Global learners say things like ... ‘I need to see how this all fits together before I can start work.’
Global learners are big picture thinkers. They like to make conceptual leaps, and synthesize information creatively. Global learners tend to learn in large jumps, absorbing material almost randomly without seeing connections, and then suddenly "getting it." they can solve complex problems quickly or put things together in novel ways once they have grasped the big picture.
If you are a global learner, try the following strategies:
- Skim through chapters in texts to get an overview.
- Immerse yourself in individual subjects for large blocks, rather than jumping from subject to subject.
- Look for connections between topics
- Be patient if you don’t understand new material at once ... understanding will come!
