Hi my name is Gemma and I am in my final year of my Bachelor of Management (Marketing). After receiving a scholarship from the Australian Government I decided to travel to Hong Kong to continue my studies for a semester and then intern for 6 months. I have henceforth extended my degree by a semester for this opportunity but will be gaining credit for my internship experience through this course and will complete my degree at the end of Study Period 2 2017. I am not sure yet what my dream job will be after graduation but I think I would prefer to work for smaller companies so I can really see my influence on business outcomes and I hope to bring back valuable knowledge from my experiences overseas to adapt in whichever role I undertake. My placement will be at QBE Insurance Asia Pacific Regional Office here in Hong Kong. I will be starting this placement in early June (pending approval of my working visa). I will be working in the HR department for the first 3 months and then the Marketing and Communication departments for the second 3 months. This regional office is relatively new and is currently undergoing large internal changes which have challenged the stability of the company culture. My work in both departments will involve a large focus on strengthening this internal culture and ensuring that this improvement in culture will translate to a strengthening of the regional brand. During my time I will also be liasing with the 'emerging markets' teams, meaning that I will work with not only clients in the APAC but also Latin America.
