Recording Reports - Recording Views

This report gives you an overview of all recordings in the course and the number of views, per minute, in the recording timeline. This report allows you to understand how students are consuming the content.  For example a high number of views at a particular point in the recording may correspond with a key point.

Report Navigation & Interpretation 

  • To get to this report please follow the steps outlined in the Access Dashboard Help Resource. 
  • From the Analytics Dashboard navigate to Recording Reports and select Recording Views from the drop down.

  • The Recording Type drop down lets you filter the report to display: Lecture Recordings - only displays views for lecture recordings. Course Recordings - displays views for all other Panopto recordings in your course except lecture recordings. All - displays views for both lecture recordings and other Panopto recordingsnumber 1 grey
  • Clicking on the title of each column will sort the report by the chosen column. Clicking on Recording will sort recordings in alphabetical order taking the first letter of each recording title - either in forward or reverse alphabetical order. Clicking on Recording Length will sort recordings by their length - either starting with the shortest or longest recording. Clicking on Total Delivered will sort recordings by their total time watched - either starting with the least watched recording or most watched recording. number 2 grey

Student Viewing Behaviour - by Recording

This report displays each student's number of views for the selected recording at any given time. The darker the colour in the graph the more times the student has viewed the particular section of the recording. 

  • Clicking on the title of each column will sort the report by the chosen column. Clicking on Students will sort students in alphabetical order taking the first letter of the first name - either in forward or reverse alphabetical order. Clicking on Student ID will sort students by the value of their ID number - either starting with the smallest number or starting with the biggest number. Clicking on Percentage will sort students by how much of the recording they have watched - either starting with 100% for students that have watched every part of the recording or starting with 0% for students that haven't watched any part of the recording. Clicking on Total Minutes Viewed will sort students by the total amount of minutes they have watched the recording - either starting with the student with least watched minutes or starting with the student with most watched minutes.  grey number 4
  • Hovering your mouse over the bar graph will give you the number of views at a given time for the respective student. grey number 5
  • Clicking on the line graph will take you to a report that shows the viewing behaviour of one particular student for all recordings of the course. grey number 6

Student Viewing Behaviour - by Student

This report displays the selected student's number of views for all recordings at any given time. The darker the colour in the graph the more times the student has viewed the section of the recording.

  • The View Recording drop down lets you filter the report to display: Lecture Recordings - only displays views for lecture recordings. Course Recordings - displays views for all other Panopto recordings in your course except lecture recordings. All - displays views for both lecture recordings and other Panopto recordings. grey number 7
