The Team

Dr David Birbeck is a lecturer in Academic Development at the University of South Australia (UniSA). David has been at UniSA for 8 years; initially as a lecturer in the School of Education and for the last three years worked on secondment as an academic developer in the Division of Health Sciences. David has led and/or implemented a number of teaching and learning initiatives including ‘Building innovation in Learning and Teaching’ (BUILT) and Peer Partnerships in the Division of Health Sciences. David is actively researching how to better understand and support the needs of new teaching staff and as part of this research working on two projects. The first is an innovative approach to mapping and modelling curriculum called Dynamic Interactive Mapping and Modelling (DIMM) which will help new lecturers better understand where their course fits within a program and assist them to make informed enhancements. The second, Course Handover will help new course coordinators better understand the purpose and needs of a specific course. Course Handover is his first national initiative through the Office of Learning and Teaching.
Associate Professor Andrea Chester

A/P Andrea Chester: will lead the project activities at RMIT. Andrea has more than 20 years experience in academia, most of it in the discipline of psychology. Over her career Andrea has built a research track record in the field of online interventions for psychological disorders as well as in the scholarship of learning and teaching. She has led and contributed to more than 25 learning and teaching grants, including multi-disciplinary, cross-institutional and collaborative industry grants. Core to her work has been a focus on peer-based/social capital models to effect change in tertiary education. She led a national project Transition in, transition out: peer mentoring for sustainable development of first and third year psychology students and was part of a team that established the Peer Partnerships professional development program at RMIT University. Andrea’s teaching practice has been acknowledged through an Australian Learning and Teaching Council Citation in 2008 for the innovative application of digital learning as well as several RMIT teaching and research supervision awards. Andrea is currently the Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor, Learning and Teaching in the College of Design and Social Context at RMIT University, Australia
Professor Tracy Levett-Jones

Professor Tracy Levett-Jones is the Deputy Head of School (Teaching and Learning), School of Nursing and Midwifery and the Director of the Research Centre for Health Professional Education in the at the University of Newcastle. She has authored ten books, the most recent being “Clinical Reasoning: Learning to think like a nurse” and Critical Conversations for Patient Safety. Tracy has led a number of Category 1 funded educational research projects and has been awarded ten national teaching and learning awards.
Dr Colleen Smith

Dr Colleen Smith brings over twenty-seven years’ experience in working in higher education. During this time she has held many academic leadership positions including Program Director roles in undergraduate, postgraduate, higher degrees and international programs. Importantly for this project, Colleen has been responsible for the educational design and quality assurance process for the largest undergraduate program at UniSA.
Mr Scott Copeland

Mr Scott Copeland is a Lecturer in the University of South Australia Business School and is course coordinator for a large first year financial accounting course. Scott is currently undertaking his PhD in the area of accounting education and has a special interest in the way teaching and subject design impacts on the student experience.

Charlotte Rose

Ms Charlotte Rose has been a lead research assistant on a number of projects including the ANU UniSA Health Hubs and Spokes Project and most recently the ‘Teaching and Research in Aged Care Servuce (TRACS) project. Charlotte is the person who makes it all happen.
