The Mammography RADY 5003 elective course is structured primarily on the radiographic Aspect of breast imaging. The course includes: positioning for a mammogram, mammography equipment, image critique, specialised breast views. Breast ultrasound is presented in a couple of lectures as is MRI and advances in breast imaging technology. It is offered only once a year, and has limited availability of only 10 places every year.
This course is run by BreastScreen SA and there is currently a long waiting list for enrolment into this course. Students at the top of the waitlist will be contacted in February and offered a place in the course for SP5 2024. New students who don’t have credit for the Mammography course are added to the waitlist upon admission, but can email alh-teachinglearning@unisa.edu.au to confirm this.
Please note:
Students who have completed CMP from an ASMIRT accredited mammography course or any other postgraduate course in mammography are eligible for credits towards mammography.
Given the flexible nature of the program, the shortage of places in mammography as well as the need to complete logbooks, a student usually takes 2 years if not more, to complete the program.
This however allows more time to consolidate the hands on skills required for a specialist breast sonographer.
Students undertaking RADY5002 Breast Sonography must be a supervised training position for at least 200 hours and need to complete 75 scans as per logbook provided by the course coordinator.
