What can I do to complete the PPP?
As soon as you begin your studies, you will start accumulating hours in-curriculum. Each time you successfully complete a core course, the designated number of hours will automatically be added to your accumulated PPP hours balance.
It is a good idea to begin planning how you want to accrue your 450 hours of professional practice as early as possible during your studies. That way you can decide what types of experiences you want to engage in and where you would like to undertake your in-industry experience.
Use the 'Planning your PPP form' to guide your thinking and start making a plan for completing your PPP.
Start
by reviewing the pre-approved list of Extra-curricular activities. Add details of the ones you are interested
in onto your '
Planning your PPP form'. Check this page regularly and review your UniSA student email for information on when activities are scheduled,
and how to register.
This is also an opportune time to begin preparing yourself for sourcing a placement with your preferred company/industry. Please see resources available
here.
Once you have completed your second year at University you can start looking for in-industry experience opportunities.
When you have successfully completed 63 units of your program, and the WHS Module ‘Undertaking a Safe Student Placement’, you will
be eligible to undertake pre-approved In-Industry opportunities. Placements can be undertaken in Australia or in your home country (pending approval).
It is recommended that you:
- Use the Plan Your Professional Practice Activities form to guide your thinking and help plan your PPP activities.
- Use the PPP Competency Development Record (CDR) form to keep a record of the competencies acquired through engagement with EA Stage 1 Competencies. The CDR form is a good career planner as well as a competency record tool to use.
- Join the professional bodies associated with your discipline as a student member (eg Engineers Australia, Institute of Civil Engineers, IEEE-Australia, IMechE, Geospatial Council of Australia). Attend as many Extra-Curricular activities as possible to grow your professional network.
- Create a LinkedIn profile and follow companies that are of interest, and actively engage with them.
- Complete the WHS Module ‘Undertaking a Safe Student Placement’ as soon as you can once you have commenced your studies in order to prepare yourselves for in-industry opportunities.
- Please familiarise yourselves with the Engineering Student InPlace Submission Guide.
