Reflect on your 'funds of knowledge'

As you identify positive and negative experiences in the arts for this task, you are drawing upon your ‘funds of knowledge’ (Gonzalez, Moll & Amanti 2009). That is to say, you already have a wealth of experience in the arts.

1. Reflect on your experiences with the arts.  The following questions will help structure your thinking.

    • Which aspects of each of the arts (dance, drama, media arts, music, visual art) have you been involved in at different points in your life so far?
    • What memories do you recall from your early childhood and later arts experiences?

    • Which aspects of the arts have been particularly meaningful for you?
    • Are there any areas of the arts where you feel personally and professionally apprehensive?
    • Which arts and cultural institutions/ companies / organisations are you aware of that provide opportunities for young people in South Australia?
    • How have the arts contributed to expressing, maintaining and changing your culture

2. After reflecting, either, a) write a paragraph OR b) create a mindmap OR c) diagram which illustrates your experiences with the arts.  Feel free to be creative and represent your ideas in a way that you prefer, i.e., in narrative text, as a mind map or other visual organiser or in a diagram.

3. Save this work as you may wish to use it in the critical reflection for the ePortfolio assessment task.
