Course The basic component of an academic program. Courses are identified by a name (e.g. "Foundations of Health") and an area and catalogue number (e.g. HLTH 1029). Courses are generally 4.5 units, with each unit representing a minimum of 40 hours work, including contact hours (e.g. class time) and non-contact hours (e.g. self-directed study). A full time load is usually 18 units per half year.
Course Coordinator The academic member of staff responsible for overseeing a particular course.
Deferred Assessment A form of secondary assessment which is granted to students unable to complete the final exam/assessment for a course at the scheduled time due to unexpected or exceptional circumstances to enable them to achieve a final grade in the course.

Withdrawal Date A date after the census date which is the last day on which students can withdraw from a course and have it recorded as "withdrawn" (W) on their academic record. A "W" grade does not contribute to a student's Grade Point Average (GPA)
Withdrawal-Fail Date A date after the withdrawal date which is the last day on which a student can withdraw and have it recorded as a "withdrawn-fail" on their academic record. Withdrawals after this time are recorded as a failure, with no indication that this was due to withdrawing from the course. A "WF" is considered in calculating a student's Grade Point Average (GPA)
