The educational framework of all the three Courses IGSO, IMSO and ICBR has been constructed in acknowledgement of the contemporary expectations from sonographers in the industry.
The Courses are designed to equip sonographers with the knowledge, professional skills, attitudes, and competence responsive to the current and evolving healthcare needs of the multifaceted community not only within Australia but also with an international perspective as global citizens.
The framework continues to be congruent with the competency framework for sonographers adopted by the ASAR and course materials have been crosschecked for relevance to the framework.
Core theoretical approaches with evidence based practice are integrated with critical reflection, adapting practical and analytical learning techniques to develop student expertise for a challenging clinical workplace.
The Courses are updated annually to reflect current knowledge development and contemporary practice as per Australian standards as well as international protocols from global bodies such as ISUOG and WFUMB.
The Courses are structured such that, as their skills and knowledge are developed, students are encouraged to take over responsibility for their learning. This is supported by assessment tasks which encourage both autonomous and collaborative work with other allied health professionals within this specialist field.
It also adapts practical and analytical learning techniques to further develop student expertise for a challenging clinical workplace.
Each of the courses are offered via a flexible mode of delivery, so that students can choose to enrol into the course most suited for their training schedule in their workplace. Where workplace requirements dictate that it is beneficial for a student to stray slightly from the recommended study plans, we work with supervisors to ensure that suitable study plans can be accommodated if possible.
The Masters level elective courses have a flexibility to enable students to choose areas of advanced practice in specialty areas.
