Students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate of Breast Imaging program do not have any exit point. After the completion of all program requirements, they will graduate with the qualification of Graduate Certificate in Breast Imaging.
For students enrolled in the Master of Medical Sonography program, after completion of the eight mandatory core courses as well as the successful completion of the 2200 supervised training hours, students will have the option of transferring into the Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography program and exiting with a Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography.
Students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography, who have successfully completed the four level 1 core courses are able to transfer in to the Graduate Certificate in Medical Sonography Principles and Theory (ICSO) and exit the program with this award. Whilst this award is not accredited by ASAR, it does give the student recognition of their basic ultrasound theory and also recognises that they have completed a form of postgraduate study. This qualification is an exit award only and is nested within the Master of Medical Sonography and Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography programs. This award is most commonly taken by those students who have not been able to resource a training position and who are therefore unable to progress to the level 2 courses, although this has been minimised due to the requirement of obtaining a clinical training position prior to enrolment (a condition of enrolment since 2022). Once the students are able to secure a training position, they are welcome to enrol back into the Masters or the Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography program and are eligible to apply for credits for their prior studies. A detailed report for the student numbers of the Graduate Certificate in Medical Sonography Principles and Theory (ICSO) exit award is available in the table below.
Currently (since 2022), all new enrolments into the Graduate Diploma/ Master in Medical Sonography and Graduate Certificate of Breast Imaging must provide evidence of their clinical training position, thus minimising the number of students needed to take the exit award and maximising completion of the full program.
