Students source their own clinical placement. They are required to liaise with the universities clinical placement unit and supply a completed clinical placement form via the InPlace system which outlines details of their clinical training place along with qualifications and ASAR accreditation number of their supervisor. This form is required to be submitted prior to entry into the program and updated at the beginning of every level 2 course (MSK, Obs, Vascular, CSP and Breast)
Students are required to document their clinical training experience in a logbook and must demonstrate a minimum of 2200 hours of supervised scanning over the duration of the program.
As the University does not offer clinical placements, we do not have a process in place to establish the suitability of placement. We advise all students that their supervisors should have a minimum of 2 years post-qualification clinical experience and be registered as an Accredited Medical Sonographer with ASAR.
International students who are completing their supervised scanning hours at an overseas location must notify the Program Director of their supervisory arrangements. The student must provide details of their clinical site as well as details of their supervisor’s qualifications, licensing status and clinical experience to demonstrate that their supervisor’s qualifications are comparable to ASAR standards.
Please find below:
An example of the instructions for Sonography students on the InPlace system to disclose their clinical training and supervisor's information. Students are required to submit this at the start of each semester.
A copy of the 'FS23 Student Insurance' form, which is required from any student who is in an unpaid so that the University can provide them with insurance cover.
