The University of South Australia has adopted as an institutional policy a statement of seven graduate qualities as the outcomes it seeks for all graduates.
Working within UniSA's culture of establishing students' foundation for lifelong learning, our academic staff are continually engaged in activities to maintain their competence by keeping up with scanning regularly in a clinical environment and/or ongoing research activities. All staff are engaged with the wider professional community through various avenues, such as: engaging with professional bodies like ASA, ASUM, and ISUOG; and volunteering activities conducting hands-on training workshops to health professionals in rural and remote areas nationally and internationally. Examples of these activities have been provided in 4.7.
We ensure that our students develop continuing professional improvement habits throughout their time studying at UniSA:
Students are made aware of the ASAR CPD Program early in their enrolment.
In order to get get into the habit of logging activities for their CPD and engage in self-directed learning, students are encouraged to take up student membership with ASA, ASUM, and ISUOG, which are available free of charge for a limited duration as a trainee. UniSA is a corporate member of the ASA in order to assist in facilitating this.
Students are encouraged to present case studies at in-house departmental meetings, submit abstracts for poster and oral presentations at conferences such as ASA and ASUM, as well as submit manuscripts for case studies or other articles to appropriate journals.
Several of our students participate in the ASA and ASUM National conferences, which motivates them to keep up and pursue these activities after graduation. Some students have also been inspired to undertake volunteering activities to train health professionals in under served areas.
