At the end of each placement, midwifery students are assessed to ensure that they have safely and competently met the requirements to pass their placement. The process for this assessment is:
The student will open a Midwifery Standards Assessment template in their ELA workbook on PebblePad
The Midwifery Standards Assessment is based on the seven NMBA Midwife Standards for Practice (2018)
The student will complete a self assessment identifying at which level they believe that they have met/demonstrated each of the criterion of the seven NMBA Midwife Standards for practice (2018) during their placement
The Clinical Facilitator will review the daily feedback from supervising midwives, speak to midwives with whom the student has worked and will complete their assessment on the student's Midwifery Standards Assessment
The Clinical Facilitator and the student will discuss the assessment during a face to face meeting, identifying achievements, gaps in knowledge and skills that may need addressing and make a plan for future learning
If the Clinical Facilitator is unable to pass the student, please refer to ELA Course Coordinator who will discuss options
The Midwifery Standards Assessment is based on the Bondy Scale which assesses students competency at 5 levels:
