I have a Ph.D. in structural engineering (Modelling of thunderstorm for Application on Extended Structural Systems). M.Sc. in structural engineering (Major: Design Aids for Steel Structures According to Egyptian-Codes of Practice).
I also use social geography to consider how journalists can better report complex, ongoing conflicts. I am working on a project trying to find 'glocal' frames of reportage which connect local realities with global discourses. I am very keen to take on honours, masters and PhD students, especially if your project involves practice-based research. My first book Borderland: Decolonizing the words of war was published by Oxford University Press in 2022. Previously I worked in print and radio as a reporter, presenter and deputy editor in Sydney, Dubbo and London.

My role is not only to facilitate learning but also to lead initiatives that integrate cutting-edge educational practices.
My professional journey is characterised by a commitment to extensive practice and industry-based research in regenerative architecture and environmental psychology. I have been instrumental in delivering nationally significant and award-winning projects in the medical and higher education sectors, serving as an Architect, Senior Designer, and Manager at a leading architectural firm from 2003 to 2011.
My research is dedicated to advancing the principles of higher education strategies, especially within the online learning environment. Also, My discipline research focuses on regenerative design in the context of healthcare and higher education environments. I take pride in my numerous highly cited publications in top-tier journals within this discipline, which contribute to the ongoing discourse and development of sustainable architectural practices.Elizabeth (Liz) Smith graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Adelaide University in 2000. She has worked in the plastics manufacturing industry and as a research and consulting engineer with the Turbulence, Energy and Combustion Group based at the University of Adelaide. She joined the University of South Australia in 2006 and is a Senior Lecturer and previous Program Director in Engineering with the UniSA STEM Unit.
