  • 2024 Writer's Circles for English as an Additional Language (EAL) candidates
in business, social sciences and humanities (BSSH) disciplines

Writer's Circles are for candidates in business, social sciences and humanities (BSSH) disciplines for whom English is an additional language (EAL) working at any stage of candidature. Writer's Circles are small discussion groups which involve participants working together to improve paragraphs or page-length sections of their own and others' research texts. We discuss the conventions underpinning English language use in research writing, as well as more general questions about research writing and the research process and context as they arise. Discussion may also include English grammar and punctuation at the sentence level, as well as how to structure different types of research writing. Writer’s Circles aim to provide a space for multi-lingual speakers to discuss English research writing conventions and practices.

    •         Writer’s Circles are offered in zoom mode only.
    •         Sessions are two hours in duration.
    •         Writer's Circles are interactive workshop activities with no formal presentation by facilitators.
    •         In order to participate in a Writer's Circle you will need a private space where you be seen and heard and interact with the group.
    •         Please turn your audio and video on when you enter the workshop room and keep them on throughout the session.

If you would like to discuss your work within a Writer's Circle, please forward a draft of no more than one to three pages to wendy.bastalich@unisa.edu.au before the Writer's Circle.
