  • Trauma Informed Pedagogy Workshop

We are all aware of the impact COVID has had on our students (and ourselves), causing anxiety and stress. The pandemic has been traumatizing,  and we know that many students have had other experiences of trauma in their lives separate to COVID that requires us to adapt our teaching approaches in particular ways. We were fortunate to have the expertise and generosity of our very own Education Futures colleague, Associate Professor Elspeth McInnes who delivered a 2-hour workshop on ‘Trauma Informed Pedagogy’ on 19th July 2022 to the UniSA College teaching team. The workshop addressed the following:

    • What is trauma?
    • What are the physiological impacts of trauma?
    • What about cumulative trauma? [ACES and polyvictimization]
    • Are there mediating factors?
    • How does trauma affect learning?
    • How does trauma manifest in behaviors?
    • How can educators support trauma survivors and those with PTSD?

Elspeth recommended this reading that people can dip in and read a case study - Here
