Topic outline

  • To achieve the production of a high quality thesis, practise these key principles:

    • Become familiar with the thesis expectations. Check the UniSA academic guidelines, procedures and regulations of the University in relation to research. These guidelines detail the formatting of the thesis and are to be read in conjunction with other types of theses, namely: a thesis containing published research, an artefact thesis and a thesis by portfolio of publications (see files below for UniSA guidelines for presentation of the thesis and exegesis).
    • Maximise your use of MSWord, e.g. on the UniSA Library website, use LinkedIn Learning and search for ‘Word’
    • Learn to use styles to format your document consistently and create automatic ‘Table of contents’
    • Learn to use templates and then practise using the UniSA template from the commencement of your candidature
    • Learn how to compile your thesis
    • Become a touch typist – search online for a free touch typing tutor (e.g. TypingClub).
    • Ask questions in the discussion forum, when needed.

    Note:
Mathematics-orientated disciplines generally use LaTeX. To learn how to use it, go to the UniSA Library website, use LinkedIn Learning and search for ‘LaTeX’.
