QUESTION: What will I be qualified to teach if I complete the MBXC program?
ANSWER: As of 4th June 2024, graduates of three-year Early Childhood Education programs that are accredited by ACECQA are eligible for provisional registration as Early Childhood Teachers (ECT) in South Australia. This allows graduates to teach in pre-school, kindergarten, childcare, OSHC, and community service settings. It does not provide registration to teach in Junior Primary settings (Reception/Foundation - Year 2). For more information about teachers' registration, please visit the Teachers Registration Board SA website: https://www.trb.sa.edu.au/Registering-to-Teach/early-childhood-teachers
QUESTION: Can I still count as a Diploma-qualified educator if I am studying the MBXC program?
ANSWER: If you are 'actively working towards' an ACECQA approved qualification (certificate III, diploma or early childhood teaching (ECT)) in a centre-based service, you may be counted towards qualification requirements. You need to have completed 30% of your program to be considered Diploma-qualified. More information about qualification requirements is available here: https://www.acecqa.gov.au/qualifications/requirements/actively-working-towards-a-qualification
If you are seeking this arrangement with an employer, Campus Central can provide a letter confirming your continued enrolment and the proportion of your ECT degree you have completed. If you are currently working in this context and are not receiving Diploma or ECT higher duties pay rates, you may wish to contact your Union, or the Working Women's Centre of SA for advice.
QUESTION: Can I start the degree next semester (SP5 2024) and is there a due date by which I need to let Campus Central know that I want to transfer to the MBXC?
ANSWER: Students wanting to commence the MBXC program in SP5 2024 must submit their Application to Change Program form to Campus Central by Friday 12th July. Submissions made after this date will be considered for commencement in SP2 2025. Please submit your form via this link: Application to Change Program form. If you require assistance with the form please contact Campus Central directly at ask@campuscentral.unisa.edu.au or call 1300 301 703.
QUESTION: What tests do we need to pass in the MBXC degree? Do we need to complete LANTITE?
ANSWER: You do not need to complete the LANTITE to graduate from the MBXC program and there are no IELTS requirements to complete the program. The Teachers' Registration Board (TRB) SA has its own requirements for English proficiency - for more information regarding these requirements please click the following link: https://www.trb.sa.edu.au/documents/english-language-proficiency-requirement-policy
QUESTION: I have already completed the elective and/or Primary specialism(s) in the MHEC/LHEC Honours program, will these count if I move across into the MBXC program?
ANSWER: The MBXC has one (1) elective course in the degree structure, so if you have already completed the elective in the Honours program, you will receive credit in the MBXC for the elective. If you have completed one or more of the Primary specialism sequence courses in the Honours program, only one of these courses will count towards the elective in the MBXC.
If you have completed all courses in the Catholic Education specialism, this will still count towards CESA requirements - if you would like more information about this, please contact Dr Julie Trinidad julie.trinidad@unisa.edu.au.
QUESTION: After I graduate from the MBXC degree, can I enrol into the Honours program to complete honours at a later date, or enrol into the Master of Teaching (MMET) postgraduate program, to get Birth - 8 years qualification?
ANSWER: Yes, you can apply for either of these programs - please be aware that entry into either program is dependent on your eligibility which is specific to each program (e.g. competitive GPA). Also keep in mind that with the new Adelaide University coming online in 2026, you may want to consider your options later once the new degrees for the new university are published as the current UniSA programs may change. The last year of entry for the MHEC/LHEC Honours program is in 2025. For more information please contact your Program Director, Dr Bec Neill bec.neill@unisa.edu.au.
QUESTION: I've completed the first three years of the MHEC/LHEC Honours program and I'm currently enrolled in the 4th year Honours courses. If I transfer to the MBXC program, will I only have to complete the final placement course for the new program?
ANSWER: Students who transfer from the MHEC/LHEC Honours program will need a personalised study plan which outlines which remaining courses they need to do in the new MBXC program, including final placement requirements. It is most likely that you will only need to complete EDUC 3091: Early Years Placement as your final course. Please contact the Teaching & Learning team for a personalised study plan to assist you with your future enrolments.
QUESTION: I am in my second year of the Honours program and haven't yet completed EDUC 2092: Professional Experience 2 - what placements do I need to complete?
ANSWER: Students who transfer from the MHEC/LHEC Honours program will need a personalised study plan which outlines which remaining courses they need to do in the new MBXC program, including final placement requirements. If you have not completed EDUC 2092, you would likely need to take EDUC 3091: Early Years Placement, EDUC 3081: Professional Experience 3, and EDUC 4193: Leadership and Advocacy in Early Childhood, which includes a work-integrated learning (WIL) component. However this will need to be confirmed by the Teaching & Learning and the Professional Experience teams so please contact us for a personalised study plan to assist you with your future enrolments.
QUESTION: Will I receive 1:1 (like-for-like) credit for all the courses I have completed so far in the MHEC/LHEC Honours program?
ANSWER: All shared courses across the Honours program and the MBXC program will be credited like-for-like, so you will not need to repeat any previously completed courses. Please note that your study plan will be different depending on which courses you've completed and when you transfer into the MBXC, and you may need to take some semesters at a part-time study load. The Teaching & Learning team will be able to assist you with a personalised study plan which outlines your remaining courses and when you can take them.
