What Types of Preference can students submit?
A Placement Block can be configured to allow student’s to submit Preferences at one of two points in the placement process:

Pre-Offer Preferences Preferences submitted prior to confirmation of Placement Offers

Post-Offer Preferences Preferences submitted after confirmation of Placement Offers
A Placement Block can only be configured to allow either Pre-Offer Preferences or Post-Offer Preferences (or No Preferences). It is not possible to allow students to submit both Pre-Offer and Post-Offer Preferences within a Placement Block.
Pre-Offer Preferences allow students to submit preferences prior to the University confirming Offers with Placement Providers.
Pre-Offer Preferences are used by some areas of the University to uncover the placement needs of their students, and this information can then be used to target Placement Requests at specific Providers able to meet the required placement needs of their students.
The following Preference Types can be configured for a Pre-Offer Preference Placement Block:

Preferred Region

Preferred Focus
Preferred Site cannot be configured as a Preference Type for Pre-Offer Preference Placement Blocks.
For Pre-Offer Preferences the list of preference options students can select from must be configured by a Placement Administrator or Placement Officer (must configure the list(s) of Regions and/or Foci etc that may be offered once placement offers are finalised).
Post-Offer Preferences allow students to submit preferences after the University has confirmed Offers with Placement Providers.
The following Preference Types can be configured for a Post-Offer Preference Placement Block:

Preferred Region
-
Preferred Focus
Preferred Site (if applicable) must be configured as the highest priority Preference Type Post-Offer Preference Placement Blocks.
For Post-Offer Preferences the list of preference options students can select from does not need to be configured (students will be able to select from a list of Sites and/or Regions and/or Foci etc that have been offered).
How do I configure Preferences for placements?
Preferences are configured for placements in the Placement Block by Placement Administrators and Placement Officers:
Student Placements > Placement Administration > Placement Block
The following information must be entered to configure Preferences:

Preferences Recording Available

Preference Timing (Pre-Offer or Post-Offer)

Submit Preference Open and Close Dates (dates within which students can submit preferences via myPlacement)

Type(s) of Preference(s) students can submit in priority order (eg. Site (Post-Offer only), Region, or Focus)

Maximum Number of Preferences students can submit for each Preference Type

Site Exclusions allowed (if applicable)

Special Circumstances allowed (if applicable)

Special Circumstance Preference Values (if applicable)

How do students submit Preferences for consideration?
If a Placement Block is configured to allow preferences to be submitted, the list of available preferences will be displayed to students in myPlacement from the Submit Preference Open Date entered in the Placement Block.
Students will then submit their preferences (if applicable) via myPlacement, and the students submissions in myPlacement will be automatically loaded into Medici.
Students will no longer be able to submit preferences via myPlacement once the Placement Block Submit Preference Close Date has elapsed.
Can I enter a student’s Preferences directly into Medici?
Yes. If a student is unable to submit their preferences via myPlacement (eg. ‘Non-E’ students), the student’s preferences can be entered directly into the Student Block by Placement Administrators and Placement Officers:

Where can I view the Preferences submitted by a student?
Preferences submitted by a student are displayed to Placement Administrators and Placement Officers in the Student Block page:
