All children under the age of eight years must have an escort with them at all times.  This may be a parent, guardian or a member of nursing staff.  Remember that as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist you may have to leave the patient to check images or measure doses.

A parent (only one) and a nurse can be invited into the scanning/treatment room with those children who need them for emotional support and sometimes to help in physical restraint, however you need to ensure that:.

Small babies need to be kept warm at all times as they lose body heat rapidly.  Wrap them up in a blanket or for longer examinations please use a portable heater.  Ask a member of staff for this.

When a toddler or young child is on the examination table, never turn your back or leave the bedside if you are the only person in attendance.  These children can easily roll off of the table.
