ID policy
We must ask the patient their full name and date-of-birth and we should ask them what examination they are about to have.
Pregnancy policy
If the patient says they may be pregnant, refer them to radiology nurses for a pregnancy test, or back to ED for a pregnancy test if they are an emergency patient. If the test is positive and the referring doctor believes the imaging is necessary, our policy is to ask the radiologist to explain the radiation risk to the patient. The radiologist sometimes prefers the referring doctor to explain the risk to the patient because they are aware of the full history of the patient and why they believe the imaging is still important.
