Will I be assessed on Clinical Placement at FMC?

All students are assessed when they are on clinical placement.  Students must meet the minimum performance standards for each clinical block. The performance standards are stated on the sheet provided to students titled Information for Clinical Mentors (read both sides!).

Will I have a Formative and/or Summative Asessment?

Students will receive a formative assessment approximately half way through clinical blocks and a Summative assessment at the end of the clinical block. You will receive either a formative or summative assessment at the end of the shorter clinical placements (some clinical blocks are in 2 separate parts).  You can ask the radiographers for feedback on your performance at any time during a clinical placement. You can also ask the student supervisor for guidance on how you are performing at any time.

What is the Basis of my Formative and Summative Assessment?

It is unlikely that one radiographer will work with you all the time during your placement at FMC (there are approximately 100 radiographers at FMC). Your formative and summative assessments are a summary of the feedback from the radiographers who have worked with you. This feedback is in the form of written feedback which is recorded on an internal student assessment form. It is important that you ask the radiographers you are working with to complete an assessment form and place the form in one of the collection boxes in Level 2, or the Emergency Department. One of these boxes is shown below.

Can I fail a Clinical Placement?

If you do not meet the requirements and standards of performance for each clinical placement, you will be deemed to have failed that clinical placement. If this should occur, you will be advised by a UniSA staff member about your options.
