15064              BLIND LOOP SYNDROME

The only information available for this surgical specimen is that the patient was a woman who was admitted with symptoms and signs of small bowel obstruction.  At operation a blind loop resulting from a previous side-to-side anastomosis was found and resected.  The specimen consists of the resected portion of the bowel opened to show distension and muscular hypertrophy of about half the specimen.  The previous side-to-side anastomosis can be seen at the upper pole of the specimen.  The mucosal folds in the blind loop appear essentially normal.
