4609                AMOEBIASIS

No information is available for this patient.  The specimen consists of portion of the colon and of the liver.  In the colon there is a large necrotic ulcerating amoebic lesion with dense fibrinous exudate adhering to its surface.  The liver contains a characteristic unilocular amoebic abscess 9 cms in diameter with yellow-grey friable contents and a congested border.  There is little attempt at encapsulation.
