The specimen consists of portion of the breast including the nipple. Arising from the skin some distance from the nipple is a large fungating mass of tumour 10 cms in length and at least 7 cms across. The surface of the tumour has ulcerated through the skin and is covered by exudate and crust. The cut surface is pale, soft and fleshy, with several areas of mucinous degeneration and much opaque cellular necrosis. Histology shows large masses of polygonal cancer cells with rather delicate stroma and large necrotic areas.
