50463/82 CHRONIC PEPTIC ULCER OF THE STOMACH
The patient was a man aged 54.
The specimen consists of the stomach. The peptic ulcer is oval, has a punched out appearance and has penetrated through the full thickness of the wall to the underlying fat. The mucosa around the ulcer is congested. The grey discoloration is postmortem artefact. The perforation in the base of the ulcer is where a section has been taken to confirm that the ulcer is benign.
