50033/84         METASTATIC ADENOCARCINOMA AND SIMPLE CYST OF THE LIVER

The patient was a man aged 72.

The specimen consists of a slice of liver. The cut surface is slightly discoloured due to poor fixation. However, the metastatic adenocarcinoma can be seen as pale areas, one of which is also causing some distortion of the diaphragmatic surface. The simple cyst has a smooth lining and a thin fibrous tissue wall. These cysts are congenital abnormalities. The metastases came from a primary adenocarcinoma of the lung.
