9405 PROGRESSIVE GLOMERULONEPHRITIS
No clinical information is available.
The specimen consists of the kidney which measures 9 cms in length. There is well marked foetal lobulation and the capsule strips readily to show generally smooth surface with very slight commencing granularity. The cut surface shows a wide cortex (6 mms) which is well demarcated from a congested medulla. There is a 3 mm zone of intense lipid deposition in the inner region of the cortex at the cortico-medullary junction. Calyces and pelvis appear normal. Histology shows swollen lobulated glomeruli with hyaline capillary thickening and epithelial crescents in many places. Epithelial and granular casts are present in the tubules.
