24419              VESICAL CALCULUS

 

This 60-year old woman had been in hospital for 3 years because of dementia and died suddenly from septicaemia secondary to chronic pyelonephritis. She had had several episodes of urinary tract infection.

 

The specimen is the bladder, containing a large round calculus approximately 3 cms in diameter. The mucosa of the bladder is haemorrhagic as is that of the urethra.
