50197/83         METASTATIC CARCINOMA OF THE LIVER

The patient was a man aged 63.

The specimen consists of a slice of liver containing many spherical pale metastatic tumour deposits. Many of the larger deposits show extensive central necrosis and the intervening liver is bile stained. Whilst the primary lesion was situated in the pancreas it did not obstruct the major ducts. The cholestasis was attributed to the metastases within the liver.
