The specimen is of a very greatly enlarged kidney and measures 16 cms in length. There is great dilation of the pelvis and calyces which were originally filled with frank pus. Some of this exudate is still present in one of the cavities in the centre of the organ. The lining of the abscesses is thick, shaggy and haemorrhagic. Only a thin rind of renal tissue remains.
