13253              TUBO-OVARIAN CYST

The patient was a woman aged 74 who died from massive pulmonary embolus originating in the left femoral vein.  She had had a partial gastrectomy for peptic ulcer 11 days previously.  An incidental finding as postmortem was a large rounded tubo-ovarian cyst.  The inner half of the tube is thin and appears normal for a length of about 4 cms.  The fimbriated end of the tube and the ovary are incorporated into a trumpet-shaped thin walled cystic enlargement measuring some 12 x 8 x 9 cms.  The uterus is of normal size.  The left tube and ovary are atrophic.
