19290              HAMARTOMA OF KIDNEY

The specimen is a horizontal slice through the kidney which shows little change apart from pallor.  It is indented by a large neoplastic mass measuring 7 cms in diameter.  The cut surface is pale, firm and slightly lobulated.  Histology shows a mixture of thick-walled vessels, fat and fibrous tissue and strands of smooth muscle and many fibroblasts.  The appearances are those of an innocent fibro-lipo-myoma.
