24561 DIVERTICULOSIS OF THE SMALL BOWEL
This 79-year old man was admitted with respiratory failure after a long history of chronic obstructive airways disease. He developed Haemophilus pneumonia and died from pulmonary embolism. At postmortem many large thin-walled diverticula were found in the first 2 metres of the jejunum. The remainder of the small and large bowel was normal.
The specimen is a portion of jejunum showing some of these diverticula, which project into the mesenteric attachment on each side in the typical fashion.
