50217/84         RIGHT BASAL GANGLIONIC HAEMORRHAGE WITH EVIDENCE OF INTRAVENTRICULAR EXTENSION

The patient was a man aged 43.

The specimen is of an haematoma present in the region of the right basal ganglia. The haemorrhage has ruptured through into the right lateral ventricle. The right cerebral hemisphere is swollen and the right lateral ventricle is compressed. The surface of the cerebral hemisphere is smooth due to the swelling apart from the bulge where the brain was herniating through a craniotomy site. The craniotomy had been done to evacuate the haematoma.
