20552              SECONDARY DEPOSITS IN THE SPLEEN FROM CARCINOMA OF THE BREAST

 

The patient was a woman aged 55 who had a carcinoma of the left breast treated with radiotherapy 4 years before her death. She was an alcoholic and attended irregularly for treatment. She presented some months later with a fungating malignant ulcer of the left breast. Palliative treatment only was given and she died two years later.

 

The specimen is a slice of the spleen showing scattered pale firm carcinomatous deposits varying in size up to 2.5 cms in diameter.
