504 ACTINOMYCOTIC ABSCESS
No clinical information is available except that the patient had a long illness after a penetrating bullet wound.
The specimen consists of two portions of liver. The larger piece shows a multilocular abscess 8 cms in diameter, the cavities containing thick yellow granular purulent exudate. There is a fibrous capsule. The lower portion of liver contains scattered abscesses varying in size up to 1.5 cms in diameter. They have thin walls and are probably more acute. They contain yellow granular purulent exudate. Histology shows abscess cavities filled with pus in which large fungal masses with typical eosinophilic clubs are present.
