50248/82         DUODENAL ULCERATION-DUODENAL EROSIONS

The specimen consists of the gastric antrum, pylorus and proximal duodenum.  A penetrating ulcer with a slightly pale margin is seen 1 cm distal to the pylorus.  Several irregular brown discoloured areas are present affecting the mucosa of the duodenum.  These brown areas are erosions.  The discoloration is due to altered blood adhering to the surface of the superficially ulcerated areas.
