24040 TRANSITIONAL CELL CARCINOMA OF THE URETER
No clinical details of this case are available apart from the fact that the patient was a 70-year old woman.
The specimen shows half a kidney with 15 cms of the ureter. The kidney measures 12 cms in length, its cut surface is pale and there is moderate intrarenal and extrarenal hydronephrosis. There is a papillomatous tumour 1.5 cms in diameter 6 cms below the pelvi-ureteric junction and there is hypertrophy of the ureteric wall above this. Section of the tumour revealed transitional cell carcinoma in which mitotic figures were quite numerous.
