23613              HODGKIN'S DISEASE

This 50-year old woman was diagnosed as having Hodgkin's disease 3 years ago. She developed collapse in the L2 vertebra with spinal cord compression which was surgically relieved. She died from massive pulmonary embolism.

The first specimen shows the spleen which is heavily infiltrated with multiple discrete pale round opacities.

The second specimen is a section of the right lung and mediastinum showing massive lymphomatous infiltration in lymph nodes on either side of the trachea, particularly on the left. The tracheal bifurcation is heavily involved and there is peribronchial infiltration which extends into the lower lobe. There is some subpleural involvement in the lower lobe.
